Banbu Sushi Bar & Grill Review

Every week our staff of writers visit a local restaurant in the San Diego area and review them, trying to find you good food. Our restaurant of choice this week was the cozy and modern Banbu Sushi Bar & Grill. 

Dan - From the moment you walk in, I could tell my experience at Banbu would be an enjoyable one. The restaurant desing and set up gives off such an inviting feeling; it's shape like a half moon, with the rounded side of the restaurant made up of large windows looking out onto the patio. Out on the patio, the decor gives the feeling of sitting in a garden and fosters relaxtion with seating around a fire pit available as well. The sushi bar is has a modern feel and and sushi chefs make Banbu feel high class, yet the menu is more than afforadable. The menu at Banbu is mass, offering not just all different types of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls but also fried rice, lamb skewers, filet mignon, lobster, curry, and teriyaki. After searching through its list of specialty rolls than spand over two pages I went with the roll named after the restaurant itself, the Banbu Roll. The Banbu Roll is made with Salmon, avacado, cream cheese, and then tempura fried; however, to add a kick, it's topped off with fresh jalepenos, spicy mayo, and siracha. The flavors complimented each other perfectly, not one was overwhelming. The intial bite is spicy, but the roll had just the perfect amount of cream cheese to neutralize the burn yet not before tasting the spice. The salmon was fresh and tasy, and the avacado added another layer of flavor that made the roll one of the best I've had from any sushi restaurant. It was no wonder why they named the roll after the restaraunt, it was a perfect representation. Banbu is one of the best places to grab sushi not just in the eastern part of San Diego, but in the entire city.
